What is Plantar Fasciitis? What is inflammation of the plantar fascia? The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue (like a ligament) that stretches from your heel to your middle foot bones. It supports the arch of your foot and also acts as a shock absorber in your foot. You may feel sharp heel pain when walking your first few steps in the morning, after long periods of walking, standing, or with exercising. Pain tells us to stop, so having plantar fasciitis can put the breaks on your workout and even daily living activities.
